Dear Diary I pulled layer upon layer of clothing this morning heading out to do chores in -4 degrees My breath a thick cloud of steam freezes immediately to the woven fibers covering my mouth There is no mistaking a cold winter morning a deep silence reverberating off the blinding blanket of white My metal axe head chips away at the thick layer of ice covering the water tanks the water so cold it turned to slush almost as it was poured I carried bales of hay some bigger than myself to each stall The sigh of relief is shaky leaving my lungs as I thank whatever is out there for keeping my herd safe another night We re all waiting for warmer days nbsp I stood breathless and fatigued soaking in the calm quiet of the woods I grew up in the city but have always been drawn to these little secret places Where every worry to burden my shoulders just lifts I have worked so hard to be here and I think I just remembered why nbsp I split and stack the firewood that will heat my little cabin in the woods sheltering me from the bitter cold this winter brought A constant smoke cloud pours from the chimney during weeks like this When each day ends and begins the same I always knew I had to have a wood stove in my home I can t resist how the flames dance despite the cold nbsp My pipes are frozen Not my favorite inconvenience but definitely not the worst Steam rises from the pot on the stove as I dip a soapy cloth in My hands gently scrub the aches and pains of the day away the warmth of the wood fire licking at my naked skin I run the cloth up and down the length of my body fingertips tracing each curve Little bumps rise across my skin in delight a warmth growing inside me nbsp And so another story was born Stay tuned it s almost finished I can t wait to share my newest fantasy I ve dreamed up inspired by the blanket of snow that covers everything outside my little cabin in the woods right now nbsp Always Maggie
